Georgia Recruiting Round Up 6-26-2003

Midway through the summer Georgia is looking strong recruiting-wise. With more than a month left until the Dawgs hit the pads in preparation for Clemson, the coaching staff is hard at work recruiting around the state and the region with two commitments in their possession.

Midway through the summer Georgia is looking strong recruiting-wise. With more than a month left until the Dawgs hit the pads in preparation for Clemson, the coaching staff is hard at work recruiting around the state and the region with two commitments in their possession.

NOTE: all positions are according to TheInsiders' Scout software. I realize that some recruits could change positions when they arrive on campus at their chosen institution. Randall Swoopes departure and the departure of defensive end Shed Wynn opens up two more scholarships for the Dawgs to use. But Wynn's only helps in the fall because of his senior status. The unofficial count is still at 13 (there is no official list kept by the Sports Information Department so this number is not totally firm).

Quarterback –

Georgia is evaluating tons of quarterbacks for the 2004 singing class. A.J. Bryant was Georgia's 1st commit of the 2004 season and is slated as a quarterback. He could be moved when he arrives in Athens. Look for Georgia to ink at least one more of the players listed below. Other players that have been offered include but are not limited to:

Bobbie Reid

Rhett Bomar

Graham Harrell

Chad Henne

Xavier Lee

Stephen McGee

Anthony Morelli

Jake Padgett

Chase Patton

Players that have not been offered but are very interested are:

Phillip Anderson

Blake Barnes

Antonio Miller

Joe Mingo

Running back –

Because of the arrival of Kregg Lumpkin and the other players at the running back position it does not look like 2004 is going to be a running back year. Tucker's Thomas Brown seems to be very high on Georgia's list of running backs. However, if Brown would actually play running back at Georgia or not seems to be a question. To this point Georgia has only offered two running backs, Brown and Markus Manson from Alabama.

Players that have not been offered but are very interested are:

Cedric Hodges

Lenford Small

Tight End –

This is perhaps the most full position on Georgia's team as of 2003. The team is loaded of talent with 3 deep at the position. That is bad news for tight end prospects. Right now Georgia is not pursuing any tight ends and therefore the Dawgs have offered no tight ends as of today.

Receivers –

Just like the tight end position, Georgia is totally loaded at receiver. Because of the depth at the position as well as the shortage of scholarships, don't look for Georgia to load up on receivers this season.

Calvin Johnson and Demiko Goodman have both been offered (and are currently the only offers) and it looks like Auburn and Georgia Tech will be the main competition for Georgia in terms of receiver recruits this year.

Players that have not been offered but are very interested are:

Brooks Foster

Offensive line –

Always in need of a few good men, Neil Callaway has spotted a few big men that he wants to sign. Last season Georgia only signed three players from outside the Peach State. This season, the Dawgs could nab double that with out of state offensive linemen leading the way.

Out of state offensive linemen with offers –

Lou Holtz had better watch his boarders this season as it appears that Mark Richt and company are invading the Palmetto State for a few prospects. If Georgia could steal both Hart and Lambert from the Cocks and Tigers it would be a big blow to the development of both Clemson and Carolina's future lines.

Glen Davis

Brandon Braxton

Leon Hart

Marque Hall

Cory Lambert

Instate offensive linemen with offers –

If Georgia could sign just these four linemen it would be a successful season for depth and skill on the offensive line. Brown and Abbott appear to be a package deal, although neither would admit to that. Watts and Ciulla have big name out of state schools knocking on their door all of the time. It will be a war, but it seems possible that Georgia could sign all four linemen and try to steal one more lineman from out of state. Clemson could have some say in Abbott's final decision.

Seth Watts

Jeremy Ciulla

Michael Brown

Courtney Abbott

Players that have not been offered but are very interested are:

Philip Browning

Kane Hannaford
