Mauger Opens Eyes at Georgia

ATHENS – There are times when camps are about getting your name out there a little bit.

That's what Quincy Mauger thought was going to happen today in Athens. That's not what happened.

"Mark Richt offered me today," Mauger said in a semi state of disbelief. "He pulled me to the side. He was very impressed with how I competed and how I did. He told me that he wanted to be a Bulldog. I was shocked. I am just enjoying the moment right now. I was not expecting an offer. I was happy."

The Kell defensive back said he's got a pretty good idea of what may have caught Georgia's eye today.

"I think I did well in the one-on-ones, and my 40-yard dash was a 4.53," he said. "I think my speed was a little questionable coming into the year, but I've worked on it and gotten my speed better."

The Georgia offer was for Mauger to play safety, and it is not his first offer, but it is a big one.

"Overall I think Georgia is the best offer I've got right now," he said. "I like Georgia's coaching staff. I always look forward to learning and the facilities are great."

Recruiting fans would quickly point out that Mauger plays with high-level prospect Brendan Langley, his teammate at Kell.

"Brendan and I are close," he said. "We workout together, practice together and do footwork together. If we got the chance to play together – whatever happens happens."
