Dawgs get a pleasant surprise from 2003 signee

James Lee has reported to Athens, and he looks ready to go right now. How big is James Lee? Look inside as we took a picture of him next to Man-Mountain Max Jean-Gilles

Georgia's last offensive line commitment from the Class of 2003 was James Lee of Belle Glades, FL. After a detour through South Carolina by mistake, Lee and his family arrived in Athens on Friday afternoon, and his presence was felt immediately at the football complex.

Lee was listed at 6-4 and 270 pounds as a high school senior, and it was this measurement that led me to believe he would be a candidate for a redshirt year while he added some weight. Lee reported to Athens on Friday at 6-4 and 290 pounds, and he looks much bigger than that. For a comparison, we took a picture of James Lee standing next to Man-Mountain Max Jean-Gilles. Gilles weighs in at 6-4 and 348 pounds.

Lee doesn't look like a player physically in need of a redshirt, he looks like a player that is ready to contribute right away. That is good news for Georgia who must replace all five starters on the offensive line and rebuild depth.

"Nah, I'm only about 290," said Lee laughing when asked if he was over 300 pounds. "The coaches asked me the same thing when they saw me. They thought I was over 300 too. We just got here today (Friday), and I'm ready to get to work."

Lee picked Georgia over offers from Florida and Ohio State among others. One of the reasons he chose Georgia was because of the high recommendation of the pictured Jean-Gilles.

Lee will begin conditioning and voluntary workouts with the team this week, and his progress will be watched closely, because he has the physical ability to play early and often.
