Eric Thomas gets first offer

Senior LB Eric Thomas from John Curtis Christian, the nation's second-ranked team, has his first offer.

Eric Thomas bench presses 450 pounds and squats 600. He throws the shot put 60 feet, has above-average speed, and is second on the team in tackles behind only fellow LB Duke Riley.

At this point, you might be wondering why Thomas only has one small-school (NAIA) offer.

The sole knock on the senior is his height (5-9 3/4, according to Thomas).

"It's great and I feel really good about Marian (Ind.) offering me," he said. "I'm glad they noticed my talent and not just my height."

What's it like being a pivotal player on one of the top-ranked teams in the country?

"We gotta keep playing like it," Thomas said. "Our practices have gotten harder as we've gotten ranked higher. We're working hard to stay on top.

"I love going to Curtis. At first I was going to St. Augustine for high school, but I changed my mind. The coaches push you hard here. I went to middle school in Belle Chasse, and I've played with or against (Duke Riley) on different teams for many years. He and I had some big collisions."

Thomas has 33 tackles on the year. He recorded a season-high 11 stops with a sack in a 33-3 rout of Tampa Plant.

In the 2011 semis, Thomas notched 12 tackles with four sacks in the Patriots' 38-6 win over Evangel Christian.
