4-star DL Kelsey Griffin picks the Gamecocks

South Carolina landed a big commitment from four-star defensive lineman Kelsey Griffin Wednesday morning. Griffin had narrowed down his choices between South Carolina and Georgia before choosing the Gamecocks.

It's been an interesting ride for four-star defensive lineman Kelsey Griffin.

He was nearly a Georgia Bulldog commitment back in late September, but a recent unofficial visit to South Carolina put the Gamecocks out front and were able to show Kelsey Griffin that South Carolina was the place for him.

Griffin committed to South Carolina Wednesday morning over Georgia.

The four-star defensive lineman informed his head coach Shannon Jarvis and the Gamecocks coaching staff this morning. Coach Jarvis released this statement earlier:

"Kelsey has just informed me and the coaches at the University of South Carolina that he is committing to play football there next fall. Kelsey attended the South Carolina-Georgia game on an unofficial visit this weekend and returned home to finalize his decision with his parents this week. Kelsey had offers from schools across the entire country before narrowing his choices to South Carolina and UGA this summer. He is very excited about the opportunity to play for the University of South Carolina and be apart of their continued success."

Griffin is a talented player who should fit in well with the Gamecocks defense in the future. He's got great speed and quickness for a player that stands 6-feet-2 and weighs nearly 300 pounds. He brings pressure in the backfield and continues pursuit of the football on every play.

This is South Carolina's 21st commitment in the 2013 class.
