Junior WR has the Irish on his wish list

Transplanted wide receiver Austin Roberts of Carmel (Ind.) talks about his new life in Indiana, what colleges are on his radar and what he likes about the Irish.

Junior wide receiver Austin Roberts of Carmel (Ind.) wasn't on Notre Dame's radar before his move to Indiana last year, but now, the Florida native is hoping to get an offer from the Irish sometime in the future.

"I hear from Notre Dame some, but I think I'll hear from them more moving forward," Roberts said. "They have great academics. They can offer you a degree that will set you up for life."

Last season, Roberts made the short trip north to South Bend for Notre Dame's thrilling victory vs. Stanford. What did the wide receiver think of the game?

"I have to say that was one of the best days of my life," Roberts said. "I got to crowd surf. I was sitting in the student section, and some of the students realized that I was a recruit, so they picked me up, and they were throwing me around. I was caught off guard, but it was awesome. I rushed the field with everyone."

Asked what it was like living close to Notre Dame during the team's run to the national championship game, Roberts didn't hesitate.

"It was really cool," he said. "I wasn't around the year before when they didn't have as good of a season. All I know is this season you saw a lot of Navy blue and gold around here."

The 6-foot-2, 185- pound prospect likes how Notre Dame operates on the offensive attack.

"They run an offense similar to what my team ran in Florida," Roberts said. "They spread the ball around, have a lot of vertical routes, and are exciting to watch."

With 10 offers and counting, Roberts wants to generate a list of favorites before the summer starts.

"I'd like to get a top five or six going into this summer," he said. "I think a lot of schools are going to feel like home for me, but I have to figure out how I see myself fitting in as a student and as a player."

Does the talented wideout want to go back to the Sunshine state for college?

"I have family spread out everywhere," Roberts said. "Location won't be a factor. I don't really like the cold, but I can handle it."

Next up, though, Roberts will visit a few schools this spring.

"I'll have to figure out which junior days I'll attend," Roberts said. "I think I'm going to Michigan soon for a basketball game. I'll probably go to Notre Dame's junior day."
