South: Signing Day Hits and Misses

Who struck gold on signing day 2013? Find out who the winners and losers were when talking the best of the best here.

Some of the top prospects in the south went into signing day uncommitted and we take a look at the winners and losers with the top 10.

Robert Nkemdiche | 5-star | DE | Loganville (Ga.)
Winner: Ole Miss
Loser: Clemson
Why: This wasn't truly a big loss for anyone from a recruiting standpoint because most felt it was a forgone conclusion that Nkemdiche would end up at Ole Miss with his brother. If anyone took this one hard, it was Clemson because he was on their commitment list for months.

Laremy Tunsil | 5-star | OT | Lake City (Fla.)
Winner: Ole Miss
Loser: Georgia
Why: Tunsil verbally committed to Georgia during his official visit on the weekend of January 16 and they were believed to be the leader for months before Tunsil visiting Ole Miss the weekend of January 23.

Montravius Adams | 5-star | DT | Vienna (Ga.)
Winner: Auburn
Loser: Clemson
Why: This one could go to Clemson or Georgia when talking the loser for different reasons. Clemson was thought to be the leader for months leading up to late January, so it hurts them, but it also has to hurt for UGA because he is another top in-state kid that got away.

Matthew Thomas | 5-star | OLB | Miami (Fla.)
Winner: Florida State
Loser: Miami
Why: This one was in the 'Canes backyard and many felt in the end, they would be able to keep him at home. It looks like UM actually came in third place at best though behind FSU and USC.

Vonn Bell | 5-star | S | Rossville (Ga.)
Winner: Ohio State
Loser: Tennessee
Why: It wasn't for lack of effort by Butch Jones and the new UT staff, but they went into signing day feeling pretty good about their chances with Bell. This safety lived in Tennessee, he grew up loving the Vols, and this was a tough loss.

Antonio Conner | 5-star | S | Batesville (Miss.)
Winner: Ole Miss
Loser: Alabama
Why: The Crimson Tide made a real run at Conner and some felt it was as close as 50-50 as signing day approached, but in the end, Conner stayed home, and chose the Rebels as Scout expected.

Dee Liner | 4-star | DT | Muscle Shoals (Ala.)
Winner: Alabama
Loser: Auburn
Why: No real loser here because it looked like Gus Malzahn was OK with Liner's decommitment from Auburn.

Alvin Kamara | 4-star | RB | Norcross (Ga.)
Winner: Alabama
Loser: Georgia
Why: This one should really hurt for UGA because not only did they lose the top running back (Kamara) to Alabama, but they lost the top two running backs in their own state to the Tide. Georgia finished second in both races.

Mackensie Alexander | 4-star | CB | Immokolee (Fla.)
Winner: Clemson
Loser: Auburn
Why: The Auburn Tigers did not lose much on signing day 2013, but this was one they thought they had a good shot at signing. They got his brother Mackenro Alexander, but Mackensie signed with a different Tigers.

Stacy Coley | 4-star | WR | Oakland (Fla.)
Winner: Miami
Loser: Florida State
Why: For months it looked like Coley would be a 'Nole, but when coaches started leaving, that is when things took a turn in his recruitment. James Coley left FSU for UM and that is why Stacy Coley chose the 'Canes.

There some big winners and big losers on signing day 2013. Alabama, Auburn, and Ole Miss stood out the most, but Clemson closed well too.

Georgia and Miami really took some tough hits when local talent chose other schools.
