UK's Cousino tabbed SEC preseason POY

Kentucky's Austin Cousino has added another honor to a growing list of accolades entering the 2013 college baseball season. On Thursday, the Wildcats' sophomore centerfielder was named the presseason Southeastern Conference Player of the Year by Baseball America.

Kentucky's Austin Cousino has added another honor to a growing list of accolades entering the 2013 college baseball season. On Thursday, the Wildcats' sophomore centerfielder was named the presseason Southeastern Conference Player of the Year by Baseball America.

The Dublin, Ohio, native is also a preseason All-America selection by Baseball America coming off a freshman season that saw him post a .319 batting average, 20 doubles, two triples, nine homers, 41 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He went on to lead the USA Collegiate National Team in hitting last summer.

Cousino was also rated as the best defensive outfielder in the SEC and as the second-best SEC prospect available in the 2014 MLB Draft.

Kentucky, ranked as high as No. 8 in the preseason and No. 11 by Baseball America, opens its 2013 season on Feb. 15 in Spartanburg, S.C., against UNC Asheville at 12 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on the UK IMG Radio Network with Dick Gabriel calling the action.
