Fall Practice Notes - August 8

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Bulldogs continued preparations for the 2001 season with a pair of practices on Wednesday. The Bulldogs held a two-and-a-half hour practice in shorts and jerseys in the morning and an additional two hours in the evening session.

"I think we are doing a good job teaching and the players are responding," head coach Mark Richt said. "We have done a lot in four practices, and they are handling it. We are much better than we were in the spring. There are many players that we see are getting (the plays). We are installing everything in the first six practices. We are learning something everyday, and we are right on track."

Freshman defensive end Darrell Holmes, a 6-3 260-pound native of Atlanta, did not practice due to a dislocated left shoulder. He is scheduled to have surgery next week according to Ron Courson, Georgia's Director of Sports Medicine.

Holmes will likely miss the 2001 season. Georgia opens the 2001 season Sept. 1 against Arkansas State at Sanford Stadium. Kickoff for the opener is slated for 1:00 p.m.
