Visitor Preview: Michigan State Spring Game

Michigan State is hosting a number of prospects this weekend who come in with offers or who could earn offers. Will they earn any commits and who are the names to know? Here is a look.

Notes:
Both DE Chris Slayton and RB Chris James told us their presence on Saturday will depend on rides, so their statuses stand at maybe for now. All of the current 2014 commits are also expected.

Malik McDowell | 2014 | DT | Detroit Loyola (Mich.)
One of the top prospects in the state of Michigan and in the entire country, the 6'6, 295-lb McDowell has been to East Lansing several times for camp, junior days, practices and more. He holds a Spartan offer as well as offers from nearly the entire country. The plan is for him to spend the night on Friday.

Dareian Watkins | 2014 | WR | Galion (Ohio)
Watkins has the Spartans in his final six and in our opinion, MSU sits in a good position along with Northwestern. His father referred to this visit as "big" for Dareian. He will still visit Northwestern again along with Wisconsin and Penn State before making a decision likely in May. This will be a two-day visit to State.

Brian Allen | 2014 | C | Hinsdale Central (Ill.)
The younger brother of current Spartan Jack Allen, Brian told us this week that he's down to Michigan State, Iowa and Ole Miss. There are rumblings he may be ready to end things and commit to the Spartans this weekend in person.

Enoch Smith Jr. | 2014 | DE | Chicago Mt. Carmel (Ill.)
Smith can go inside-outside and has offers from a number of BCS schools including the Spartans. He has had good visits to East Lansing in the past. At this point, he says it will likely be a little while before he makes a decision though.

Brian Cole | 2015 | WR-S | Saginaw Heritage (Mich.)
Only a sophomore, Cole already has an offer from the Spartans along with ones from Ohio State and Michigan as well. He's being recruited by some as a receiver, but the Spartans have the 6'2, 190-pound prospect as a safety. He has been to campus before.

Elijah Taylor | 2015 | DT | Cincinnati Moeller (Ohio)
Moeller is a program the Spartans have had success at and we think Taylor is one of their next big time prospects. A disruptive 6-3, 245-lb. prospect, he received his first offer from Ohio this week and we think other programs, including MSU will eventually follow suit.

Maurice Ways | 2014 | WR | Detroit Country Day (Mich.)
Ways' recruitment is heating up as Michigan and Rutgers offered the 6'4, 190-pound receiver this week. He camped in East Lansing last summer and has visited for spring practice. No Spartan offer yet, but he is in contention for one.

Ka'John Armstrong | 2014 | OL-DL | Detroit Loyola (Mich.)
We're told he will come up with his teammate McDowell on Friday and stay until Saturday. Armstrong doesn't get the press clippings Malik does, but he's 6'5, 270-pounds, able to play both ways and is very talented in his own right. No offers currently but that could change.

George Brown | 2015 | DL-OT | Cincinnati Colerain (Ohio)
The 6'6, 245-pound Brown has a big frame for a young prospect and his upside has allowed him to steadily add offers this winter and spring to where his total is now well into the double digits. Best position at the next level? Still to be determined. MSU has not offered to date.

Ricky DeBerry | 2015 | OLB | Richmond St. Christopher (Va.)
A young prospect from Virginia, the 6'3, 235-pound DeBerry has over 20 offers from across the country. Michigan State has not offered yet, but he's certainly in contention for one in the future.

Kyle Rachwal | 2014 | TE-LB | Lapeer East (Mich.)
Rachwal has an offer from Eastern Michigan as a linebacker, but is also being recruited by some schools as a tight end. He stands 6'3, 230-pounds and is likely a guy who will get a good look from the Spartans at camp.

Dekurtis Murphy | 2015 | OT-DT | Lake Michigan Catholic (Mich.)
Murphy is a 6'5, 290-pound youngster who plays at a smaller school, but has dominated that competition. He's been to MSU before and says he has been working hard in preparation for the Spartans' summer camp in June where he hopes to impress.
