Perno Let Go

ATHENS - David Perno has been let go as baseball coach at Georgia.

The news was expected as the Bulldogs ended the year 21-32 and missed the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four years.

"I loved my time at Georgia," Perno told Roger Clarkson of the Athens Banner-Herald. "There's a lot of silver linings in this situation. It was too good and we did too much to be bitter. It's not worth it. It was great. What Georgia coach ever beats [Georgia] Tech [once] and Florida twice and gets fired in the same week? That's never going to happen again."

Perno led the Bulldogs to three College World Series appearances, including an appearance in the national championship series in 2008. He was also a player on the program's national championship team in 1990.
