Dean's List: Games of the Year - #5

Dean Legge counts down Georgia's five biggest games of the 2013 season.

#5 - Tennessee

For years the contest between the Vols and Dawgs was a pivotal one in the SEC East. But Tennessee's slow decline after running off Phil Fulmer has hurt the rivalry between the two schools. The Vols are on their third coach since Fulmer's departure. Its pretty obvious now that running Fulmer off might have felt good at the time, but it wasn't the right move given hindsight.

Tennessee's struggle has benefited South Carolina more than any other program in the SEC East, but Georgia has had an easier path to Atlanta without the Vols getting in the way the last two years.

The October fight between the two returns to Knoxville this year. The Bulldogs will be nationally ranked coming into the season; Butch Jones and company will be trying to make waves of their own, but the task at hand will be a difficult one for the Big Orange. Still, any road division game is a big one – and this one is made that much more difficult by the size of the venue the Vols play in.

Tennessee has been struggling for a while, and game against Georgia presents an opportunity to make some waves nationally – even if that seems like a difficult task.
