Williams Makes the Call

Rutland wideout Shakenneth Williams committed to Georgia during a Dawg Night rain delay.

ATHENS – Georgia's coaching staff got some good news during a rain delay at Dawg Night.

Rutland wideout Shakenneth Williams gave his commitment to the Bulldogs Friday night. Williams is not available to comment during a visit as a prospect on campus, and Georgia coaches are not available to comment on recruiting.

"I came to a decision, and my mom and I talked it over," Williams said. "We just felt like the coaching staff at Georgia was the right fit for me."

Williams caught 41 passes for 738 yards and eight touchdowns at Rutland last season, and was also given a spot to play in the RisingSeniors Junior All-Star game.

"It was just kind of in the moment," Williams said of committing to Georgia. "I decided to go tell Coach Richt that I want to go to Georgia."

Williams decision came in the middle of an hour-and-a-half weather delay.

A few other SEC schools that offered Williams were Kentucky, Mississippi and Vanderbilt. Alabama and South Carolina had yet to offer the Rutland athlete.
