"I just realized that spots were going to fill up and I didn't want to miss out on my best opportunity," said Burkett of his Vandy commitment. "I visited Vandy last week and it was a great visit. I really enjoyed my visit to Nashville. I enjoyed the campus, the coaches, everything."
Burkett who has stressed finding a strong academic school to go along with a solid football program says he found what he was looking for in Vanderbilt.
"It was a combination of Vandy's academics and the fact that they play in the SEC. They also told me they think I will be able to earn both my bachelor's degree and my master's degree during my four to five years there. Vanderbilt also has a study-abroad program that I can participate in. I don't know any other schools that allows their players to do that," said an excited Burkett.
The 6-foot-4 and 280-pound tackle said that it came down to five schools from which to make his decision.
The rising senior also said that the Nashville being within driving distance for his family was another key factor in the decision. Burkett also stated that his family would also be able to attend many of Vandy's road games due to the fact that Jacksonville is so close to so many SEC campuses.
