Top NC DL Picks Georgia

Georgia has always done well recruiting in the Carolinas.

The Bulldogs added to their impressive recruiting pull today with the commitment of North Carolina defensive tackle Lamont Gaillard.

. "My decision wasn't too hard. My top three schools were Georgia, Georgia and Georgia," he said. "I had a good idea of where I wanted to go the whole time."

But Gaillard said he grew up a fan of another school in the South - and not a football power.

"I didn't grow up a Georgia fan. I actually liked Duke," he said. "I had this trip to Athens planned for a few weeks. I wanted to announce my decision."

"Part of the reason is because I want to be focused on my senior season," he said. "My team has a good chance to go to the playoffs this season."

Gaillard, considered a four-star prospect by Fox Sports NEXT and the number three overall defensive tackle in the country, picked the Bulldogs over Clemson, Alabama, Florida and others this weekend.

Gaillard is considered the second-best overall player in North Carolina. The Tar Heel state has been good to the Bulldogs of late. Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall combine to form one of the top running back duos in the country - both are form North Carolina.

New defensive line coach Chris Wilson has done a good job of making a recruiting impact for the Bulldogs. Georgia already has the top defensive tackle class in the country with the third-best (Gaillard) and ninth-best (Carrollton DT Dontavius Russell) prospects in the country. They could still add Tucker defensive tackle Elisha Shaw, who is still considering Ole Miss, Alabama and the Bulldogs.

"I've talked to Coach Wilson the most. I really like him."

Gaillard's commitment to Georgia moves the Bulldogs up to #2 overall in Fox Sports NEXT's national recruiting rankings - ahead of #3 Alabama and #4 Texas A&M, but behind #1 Tennessee.
