In a way Sterling Bailey has already surprised. When players get off to a slow start two years into their careers in college most of the time they either find a way to get thrown off the team or graduate without making much noise.
That's not the path Bailey seems to be taking. Listed as a starting defensive end, Bailey has come a long way over the last few months. It remains to be seen if he can hold onto the starting job with such depth around him, but no one seems to be saying anything bad about him right now.
There was never much doubting Bailey's size or length – perhaps he spent one year playing a position he's not really comfortable, and it took another year to get used to defensive end. No matter the explanation, Bailey has already surprised with his current starting status on the defensive line – now we will all see if he can hold on to it.
