Ben Cleveland: What I Learned Watching

ATLANTA - Ethan Burch reviews Stephens County OT Ben Cleveland's performance against St. Pius X.

There's really only one word to describe Ben Cleveland's physical appearance and that's big. Cleveland is easy to spot on the field, regardless of who he's lined up in front of or beside. The kid is a 6-foot-5, 320 pound sophomore, so he is in fact a kid. It's not out of the ordinary to think he's still got time to grow.

The first thing I noticed about Cleveland was obviously his size, but the second was his ability to manhandle defensive linemen. Cleveland had no trouble in his scrimmage with St. Pius X last week and that was just his first outing of the season.

As a kid who's only been a sophomore for a few weeks, Cleveland has already received offers from SEC schools like Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. There are also a few outside offers from Clemson and Texas to go along with those. He hasn't vocally sided with one school in particular, but he has been to camps at Georgia and Alabama. Alabama has yet to offer Cleveland, but it is a school Cleveland has interest in.

Cleveland attended Georgia's Dawg Night in July where he said he thought he put on a good showing for Georgia offensive line coach Will Friend. Anyone who watches Cleveland will see the immediate upside he can bring to a program. He still has so much room to grow physically and with his knowledge of the game. He is a player who's eager to learn and get better.

In one thought, anyone who runs behind him will have room.
