North Texas Week: Wednesday Practice Report

ATHENS - Georgia conducted a 75-minute workout in jerseys, shorts and helmets Wednesday.

With an open date last Saturday, the Bulldogs (1-1, 1-0 SEC) are ahead of schedule in their preparations for this week's contest with North Texas (2-1).

"This was the first of our two dress rehearsals, and the guys are prepared. They're ready," Georgia coach Mark Richt said.

Richt added that he was impressed with the Mean Green victory last week against Ball State. North Texas rallied from 18 points down to beat the Cardinals 34-27, outscoring them 25-0 in the last 33 minutes of the game.

"I think 19 of their 22 starters are juniors or seniors, and they showed that they're a good team with that comeback," Richt said. "They have allowed only six points in the second half all year, and that's good no matter who you are playing."

Talked turned briefly to the Southeastern Conference game between LSU and Auburn this Saturday. The game between the two unbeaten teams features two former Bulldogs that now are the starting quarterbacks in Zach Mettenberger and Nick Marshall.

"I think that shows that we did a good job of evaluating talent and recruiting them, and that they landed in a good place and realizing their dream," Richt said. "They had a major roadblock in their career and now they are doing well, and I'm happy for them."

Georgia plays host to North Texas Saturday on SEC TV with kickoff schedule for 12:12 p.m. ET.
