Off Week: Thursday Practice Report

ATHENS - Georgia conducted a two-hour practice in jerseys, shoulder pads, shorts and helmets Thursday in their final session of the week.

Georgia (4-3, 3-2 SEC) will enjoy an open date in its schedule Saturday and will return to the practice fields on Monday to continue preparations for the upcoming game with Florida (4-3, 3-2 SEC).

Georgia coach Mark Richt said Thursday's session was productive and afterwards, he met with the media as they inquired about the health of several Bulldogs who have been sidelined of late.

"I'm encouraged," Richt said when asked about sophomore tailback Todd Gurley who returned to practice this week. Gurley has been out with an ankle injury since the first quarter of the LSU game on Sept. 28. "He practiced and made it to the end and was running sprints with everybody."

Gurley remains among the 24 Bulldogs listed on the post-practice injury/illness report. Richt added that junior split end Michael Bennett (knee) did some straight ahead running and looked good, and that he thinks he will be able to practice Monday. Bennett went down with an injury in the road win over Tennessee on Oct. 5.

On Thursday, it was announced that UGA student-athletes graduated a rate of 83 percent in the latest NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and that Georgia ranked first among SEC schools in four sports including football. The Bulldog football team had a GSR of 82 percent.

"I'm very proud of everybody and thankful," said Richt. "Everybody did a great job and put in a lot of effort."

The Bulldogs will battle the Gators in Jacksonville, Fla., on Nov. 2, and it will be televised nationally by CBS. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET.
