"Tray practiced full speed with no limitations," Richt said. "Todd practiced to the best of his ability, but he is hobbling around a little bit."
Matthews started the first four contests this year but has not seen any game action since the win over sixth-ranked LSU on Sept. 28. Gurley made a triumphant return this past Saturday in the latest victory over Florida, accounting for 187 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. He had been out since the second half of the LSU game.
Richt added that senior tight end Arthur Lynch (bruised ribs) did not practice Wednesday but is making progress. The Bulldogs have redshirt sophomore Jay Rome and senior Hugh Williams at that position too. When asked about Williams, Richt said "Hugh is an excellent route runner who has been getting a lot of reps and had another good practice today."
Appalachian State (2-7) is coming off a home loss to Chattanooga, falling 35-28 last Saturday. It was the first loss to the Mocs since 2004 and first time at home since 1983. In school history, ASU boasts seven wins over FBS/I-A opponents since 1983, most notably a 34-32 decision at No. 5 Michigan in 2007. This will be the first meeting between Georgia and ASU. The Mountaineers move up to the FBS ranks on July 1, 2014 when they officially join the Sun Belt Conference.
The Bulldogs and the Mountaineers square off Saturday in Athens. WSB-TV will broadcast the Homecoming game regionally with kickoff set for 12:31 p.m. ET.
