"It feels pretty good," said Darious Carter about his commitment to Virginia. "I am pretty excited about it."
The Indiana, Pennsylvania, defensive end is UVa head coach Mike London's second commitment in one week. Carter announcing his pledge to the Cavaliers on Sunday night, after decommiting from Temple.
"I decommitted (from Temple) a couple of days ago," he explained. "I talked to my parents about it. I just had to think about it, and it just seemed the right time to commit.
"Recruiting is a business, and I didn't want my opportunity to go with Virginia and then go visit Temple and then someone else fill my spot. I have already been to Temple, I have been on an unofficial. I've seen pretty much everything, I just didn't go through the campus. I just saw that it was better for me to head to Virginia."
Carter's official visit to Charlottesville went remarkably well, and helped the 6-foot-5, 200 pounder make up his mind.
"Just the players, being at home at Virginia, where I was born," Carter stated. "The weather, I am more of a warm guy anyway. It seems like football is pretty big, so that influenced my decision as well."
With his family living in Portsmouth, Carter says he is expecting many of them to come see him play on the weekend, but it was another family that welcomed him with open arms back to his home state.
"He (Coach Mike London) was coming back from spending time with his family, but they all congratulated me. He liked it a lot."
Now the defensive end is concentrating on improving before he makes the trip to Charlottesville. London and company envision him to be like a "Eli Harold type of guy." And Carter is ready to live up to those expectations.
"I just have to get stronger and better in order for my to play that type of football."
Carter recorded 14 sacks, 80 tackles and 15 pass breakups this season.
