Friend of a Friend

MARIETTA, Ga. - 2015 OT Chuma Edoga earned top honors at Sunday's NFTC, while a certain UGA coach has earned his ultimate respect.

Edoga, a 6-foot-4, 277-pound offensive tackle out of McEachern High earned his invitation to The Opening presented by Nike Football following his participation in Sunday's NFTC camp at Lassiter High School. Doors are opening for the rising senior, but he's starting to close in on his recruiting front-runners

"You could say that my top four schools right now are Tennessee, USC (Southern California), UGA and Stanford," Edoga said.

He put out a disclaimer, however, to confirm that list was in no particular order of interest.

It's basically anyone's game at the moment, but no school has a coach with closer connections to Edoga than Georgia, the four-star offensive tackle said.

Georgia's offensive line coach Will Friend has made quite the impression on Edoga, earning the trust of one of the nation's top offensive tackles.

"I've probably been there (Athens, Ga.) like three times," Edoga said. "I have a really good relationship with the coaches. I have a really good relationship with Coach Friend; (he's) probably like the coach I'm closest to out of all the coaches I've met."

Friend's likable personality, along with his track record of coaching NFL Draft picks like Cordy Glenn, Ben Jones and Justin Anderson, have led to Edoga paying close attention to what Friend has to say. Friend listens to what Edoga has to say, too.

"He's a real cool guy," Edoga said. "If I call him I don't have to talk about just football. I could talk to him about school, what's going on in life - anything."

That's just the type of thing you want to hear a recruit say, if you're Georgia. However, there's still time for those top four schools to jockey for Edoga's top spot. The junior plans to announce his decision on May 25 - his 17th birthday.

Edoga recently visited Georgia a few weeks ago, and has a few more trips planned for the coming month.

"I went to UGA like two weeks ago, and I'm going to go to Cali to visit USC (Southern California) and Stanford probably the first week of April," Edoga said. "I'm going to the spring game at Tennessee (on) April 12."
