Injury report: Southern Schools getting hurt

Southern teams are being hard hit by the injury bug this pre-season.

Around the South several teams are wrapping up their two-a-day practices and are heading into the season, but not without injuries.

Already this season numerous teams in the SEC as well as the ACC have been hit hard with the injury bug. In Athens Darrell Holmes, Reggie Weeks, and George Foster are currently injured, with Holmes and Weeks out for the season.

Georgia Tech's injuries issues are not limited to one person, but George Godsey's knee is of major concern. Tech's Godsey seems to be recovered form his knee problems but he has not taken a hit since the Peach Bowl last season.

Florida State's Anquan Boldin and Robert Morgan have been lost for the season. As a result of the loss of Boldin and Morgan, some Seminole players have been issued blue jerseys which signify that they are not allowed to be hit. Otis Duhart, Chris Woods and Blake Williams have also sustained injuries that will make them questionable for the next few weeks at least.

The injury bug has also hit Clemson, losing Kevin Youngblood, the fastest player on the Tiger roster and Altroy Bodrick for the season. Even the Tiger's defensive coordinator Reggie Herring is getting into the injury act, suffering an ACL after celebrating an interception in last week's scrimmage.

South Carolina's Derek Watson is still having problems with his hamstring. Carolina Head Coach Lou Holtz has indicated that Watson will be held out of drills and possibly one or two games due to the continued problems with his hamstring. Shannon Wadley and Cedric Williams have also sustained injuries for the Cocks.

Florida's Jabar Gaffney is dealing with several nagging leg problems. Gaffney's leg injury came as a result of a defender falling on top of him during practice. Mike Pearson, an offensive tackle for the Gators, is also hurt.
