Here are some recruiting notes on top prospects out of the South from The Opening...
Darius Slayton (Pictured above) may or may not make another cut before he commits. He is sitting at about a top eight or nine right now. The four-star cornerback out of Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian has visited Florida, Georgia, LSU, and South Carolina already this summer. A few schools are standing out more than the others in his head right now, but he is not ready to name those. A decision could come early this fall.
Daron Payne, a five-star defensive tackle out of Irondale (Ala.) Shades Valley still lists Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, and Texas as his top four. He did state that he will choose one of those schools when he commits. At this time, he is likely to commit at the Under Armour All-America game. Scout consider Alabama as the school to beat.
Jonathan Ledbetter is still committed to Alabama and he is still going to visit other schools. He hopes to visit Florida soon and he plans to visit Alabama in July as well. The four-star defensive tackle out of Tucker, Ga. will be back at Georgia for Dawg Night with close friend, UGA commit Chauncey Rivers.
Scout 300 offensive tackle Drew Richmond named six schools that he is still considering -- Alabama, Memphis, North Carolina, Ohio State, Ole Miss, and UCLA. He plans to commit September 9, a day that is special to Richmond due to a death of a close friend. Do not sleep on the in-state schools.
Four-star tight end Will Gragg announced a top six this week and it consisted of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisville, LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas. He is in no rush, he plans to take all five official visits before he commits.
