Torrance Gibson (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) is one of the top athletes from the Sunshine State. He plays quarterback and participated in the Elite 11. Here at The Opening he’s playing wide receiver. Overall, he’s enjoyed the dual experience.
”It’s been a little different,” Gibson said. “First I was out here playing quarterback and now I am more of an athlete. I wasn’t invited to come out here to play quarterback but receiver. I get it and I understand. I have work to do there [at quarterback] and it was good to come here and work on my mechanics. I know I need to develop as a quarterback.”
It’s not news that Auburn and Tennessee are his front runners. Those two have been on top for some time. What is news is that a new team is coming on the scene for this 6-foot-4, 207-pounder. It’s Arizona from the Pac 12.
”Right now the plan is to make an official visit there in September,” Gibson said. “They haven’t offered yet.”
Gibson got intrigued with the Wildcats after befriending defensive tackle Khalil McKenzie (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley). The two met on twitter and later video chatted.
”We have talked a lot since,” Gibson said. “Now we may team up. He’s the one that got me interested in Arizona. We will see.”
McKenzie, a five-star recruit, will announce his decision tomorrow at The Opening. His finalists are Arizona and Tennessee.<.P>
