Fenteng was dressed a bit differently, though. The junior watched from the sidelines in a green, non-contact jersey (and no pads) as Jeremy Pruitt went through drills with Fenteng’s fellow defensive backs.
Of course, like Pruitt said earlier today, Fenteng and Wilson shouldn’t worry anyone.
2. Today was Georgia’s first day in full pads. For those players not in a green jersey, the intensity started in period four.
And I do mean intensity.
It probably wouldn’t be right to call it the ‘Oklahoma’ drill if it’s taking place at Woodruff Practice Fields in Athens, but c’mon. I don’t know what else to call it. All you should know is there’s no lack of enthusiasm with these players.
It’s hot out there, according to defensive line coach Tracy Rocker, but you wouldn’t know it from watching players compete today. It was a chance for new players to show their position coaches what they could do, and earn some trust.
Pruitt says anyone can run around out there in shorts and headgear, but the football doesn’t really start until the pads go on. There was football today. Players like Aaron Davis who have a legitimate shot at making some noise this season finally got a chance to show what they can do, and you can bet it won’t be the last.
3. Kevin Sherrer has a good-looking group of outside linebackers. The two that stood out to me today were Davin Bellamy and freshman Lorenzo Carter. Both of them move well, and showed some athleticism as they went vertical to catch the football in one drill today. Carter was good without pads, and it looks like he’ll be fine as full-contact starts, too.
Sherrer is really preaching strength to his group.
4. Rico Johnson really caught Pruitt’s eye when he went up to get a ball today. Johnson is a wide receiver who’s currently changing his game up a bit at cornerback. Approaching August, Pruitt planned to keep a close eye on Johnson as he made the transition.
Looks like Pruitt likes what he’s seeing out of the freshman from Swainsboro.
5. It was 94 degrees as Georgia took the practice field today – four degrees warmer than yesterday. Rocker stressed that this morning. That’s my eye in the sky.
