Five-star DL to commit next week

One week from today, August 12, five-star defensive tackle Trenton Thompson will announce his decision...

It has been on his mind for some time and after discussing things with his family, Trenton Thompson has scheduled his commitment ceremony.

The five-star defensive tackle, the top prospect in Georgia will announce his decision one week from Tuesday.

"I am committing after school (Exact time still to be determined) next Tuesday," said Thompson. "I am ready to set my mind on one school, focus on the books, and make my commitment."

Thompson is a national recruit. The 6-foot-3, 298 pound senior at Albany (Ga.) Westover has options from coast to coast, but he has it down to five schools.

Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, and USC are the finalists for the No. 1 defensive tackle in the country.

He is "still deciding" which school is the perfect fit for him he told Scout Tuesday.

Westover head coach, Octavia Jones knows he has a special talent, but having a prospect like Thompson has helped the overall program.

"It is huge for us," said Jones. "We have been making strides the last few years and Trenton has brought us a lot of attention. We are extremely excited as a school, as a community, and as a town. It says a lot about the amount of talent we have in this part of that state too. We are proud of the kids here and excited about the opportunities we have."

August 12 will be a big day in Albany as Coach Jones stated, the south Georgia town is home to one of the premier prospects in the country. That day will be a big one for many, but it will be special for Thompson for multiple reasons.

"I chose August 12 [to commit] because that was my grandmother and grandfather's anniversary," Thompson said. "They are deceased now, but they were married for 39 years. This is for them and I am excited about it. I will have their photo up there beside me when I announce my decision."

It will be for his mother and many others in his family too. She has been a big part of this process. "My mom is happy. She has been with me to many schools and she is happy about this happening next week."
