  • Recruiting: Georgia was the first school to offer Thompson early in 2013 and it hs been the leader since. Georgia beat out Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, and USC for Thompson’s commitment August 12.

Scouting Report: Could be a special player down the road. Already dominate off sheer power and size, but once he improves his technique, watch out.

Thompson is very disruptive in the middle. He has a great first step and he really explodes off the ball. He can hit the gap, explode past the offensive lineman, and be in the backfield in a hurry. He is someone who can be a true, three-down defensive lineman on the next level.

Against the run, he is strong at the point of attack, he flashes good leverage, and he has very strong hands. He can re-direct well, he can control his gap, and he can make plays behind the line of scrimmage. As a pass rusher, he is more about quickness and beating his opponent off the ball. He is more of a bull-rush guy at this time, so he needs to work on his moves, improve on setting up the offensive lineman, and not be as one-dimensional moving forward.

Thompson is a dominant defensive lineman with power, frame, speed, and potential. He will get better in the consistency department over time and the technique will improve too. He is a Sunday-type when evaluating him on this level. He can take over a game. He is a true three-technique that coaches want to build their defense around in college.
