Barber "A Little Bit Ahead Recently"

ATHENS - Collin Barber remains a “little bit ahead recently” of Adam Erickson in the competition at punter, assistant John Lilly said Tuesday night.

“I think they’ll both play, they’ve both played I think the last couple of years,” Lilly said. “Some of it may be a little bit situational and some of it may be just the hot hand, but it’s a great problem to have.”

Adam Erickson could again handle “pooch punts,” Lilly said.

Richt sounded pleased for the most part with both Barber and Erickson.

Collin Barber held the job in 2012 and again last season before Erickson, from Clarke Central, took over for the final three games.

“Both punters are very capable,” Richt said. “They've had outstanding operation times and I think they have had wonderful hang times, and all that kind of thing. It hasn't been quite as consistent as I want from either one of them, not to say it's been awful, but I like 10 out of 10. So every once in a while they'll have a kick that is not their best.”

Lilly said junior Nathan Theus is ahead of Trent Frix as the snapper on punts and field goal/extra points.
