Fall Practice Notes - August 24

ATHENS, Ga. ------- The University of Georgia football team worked out for almost two hours at Sanford Stadium on Friday as it continued its preparations for next week's season opener versus Arkansas State. According to Georgia coach Mark Richt, the team went through a "practice game" as it played two 15-minute quarters.

The Bulldogs also went through pre-game rehearsals for how it will enter the stadium, warm-up, and run out onto the field. Quarterbacks D.J. Shockley and Cory Phillips each engineered touchdown drives during the scrimmage while redshirt freshman David Greene had a touchdown pass called back due to a penalty. According to Richt, the mistakes the offense made were ones that could be corrected.

"The whole offense struggled early on, but it was mainly caused by penalties," said Richt. Following Friday's practice Richt announced that senior long snapper Andy Hogan (special teams), senior center Curt McGill (offense) and senior strong safety Jermaine Phillips (defense) have been named captains for the first game of the season versus Arkansas State. Richt said the captains are subject to change from game to game based on voting by the coaches and that the players will select permanent captains at the conclusion of the season.

Georgia's game against Arkansas State will kickoff at 1 p.m. next Saturday at Sanford Stadium.
