Samford to play Georgia in 2017

ATHENS - Georgia has added a home game for the 2017 season against Samford.

That's according to a memorandum of understanding obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald in an open records request. The agreement, signed Wednesday by UGA athletic director Greg McGarity, calls for the FCS school from Birmingham, Ala., that plays in the Southern Conference to get $500,000 for the game at a date to be determined in 2017.

The only other meeting between the schools came in 1943 when Samford was known as Howard College. Georgia won 39-0.

Georgia’s 2017 non-conference schedule also includes games at Notre Dame and at Georgia Tech and at home against Appalachian State.

 This and that

Cornerback Devin Bowman, who was in a non-contact jersey Tuesday, will play, Richt said.

Georgia got in its Wednesday practice despite what Richt said was a “tad bit of rain.”

Saturday will mark just the third time in the Georgia-Florida series that both teams have had a bye before the game, according to Georgia. Florida is 15-6 against Georgia before an open date. Georgia is 5-3 against the Gators after a bye week.
