Good ball security (and some luck)

ATHENS - Georgia’s four turnovers lost are the fewest in the nation, just ahead of Oregon, Duke and Northern Illinois.

The Bulldogs have only one lost fumble.

“I could sit here and brag about how great we’ve done securing the ball,” Richt said,” but the reality is we did fumble eight times, but somehow only lost one of them. It’s not like we’ve been perfect in our ball security. We’ve just been blessed to be able to get on the ball when the ball is on the ground.”

Sophomore tailback Brendan Douglas chalks up only one lost fumble to “getting a little lucky. I think we’ve done a good job, too, of just ball security.”

Bennett had the lost fumble against Clemson in the season opener.

“People (tell) me that all the time, `You’re the only fumble we lost,’” Bennett said. “And, ‘Well, it shouldn’t have been called.’ I shouldn’t have gotten in that situation anyway. It was freaking stupid. That’s all right. …Sometimes it takes luck and we seem to have it lately.”
