‘Grown man’ Chubb

ATHENS - Nick Chubb sixth 100-yard rushing game of the season earned him his fifth SEC freshman of the week honor on Monday.

The Cedartown product rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries against Charleston Southern.

He ranks fifth in the nation in rushing yards per carry at 7.16 and 20th in rushing yards with 1,152.

“This dude, Nick Chubb, he has stepped up and has balled every single week,” former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow said on SEC Nation Saturday. “He’s 18 years old, but he’s a grown man. …You just can’t arm-tackle this dude.”

Chubb turns 19 two days after Christmas, but he’s carried the load for Georgia during Todd Gurley’s four-game suspension and now with Gurley lost for the season with a torn ACL.

“I got a four-week head start on when he got in trouble,” Chubb said. “I miss Todd. He’s a very good kid. I’m sad that it happened to him.”

Chubb is second in the SEC in rushing yards per game with 104.7.

“The kid’s special,” center David Andrews said. “I think we all knew that. When you have someone as good as Todd, a lot of people get overlooked. Things happened and Chubb got his chance to shine and really took advantage of it.”
