Dawgs to Face Louisville, Grantham

Georgia will face Louisville in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte on Tuesday December 30.

It will be the first time the two programs have met in a bowl game. It will be the Bulldogs’ 18th different bowl game in the school’s history. The two programs have never faced one another on the gridiron.

ESPN reported the news midday on Sunday.

The No. 13 Bulldogs are trying to win their 10th game of the year and will be going up against former defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who left the program for Louisville a year ago. The Cardinals are ranked No. 20 and are coming into the bowl with a three-game winning streak over Boston College, Notre Dame and Kentucky. Louisville lost to Clemson, Florida State and Virginia this season.

The Belk Bowl will kick off at 6:30 and will be broadcast on ESPN. There are no other bowl contests scheduled at that time.

The bowl will feature a reunion of sorts - and not just for Grantham. Former Georgia defensive backs Josh Harvey-Clemons and Shaq Wiggins transferred to Louisville after the spring. Harvey-Clemons was dismissed from the program by Mark Richt. The Cardinals also feature Michael Dyer, who was once a running back at Auburn before being kicked off the team as well. Dyer has played for the Cardinals this season, but both Harvey-Clemons and Wiggins had to sit out this season because of NCAA transfer rules.

Louisville ranks 68th in total offense (83rd in rushing and 50th in passing) and ranks 6th in total defense (3rd in rushing defense and 30th in passing yards allowed). Louisville ranks 41st in scoring offense (32.6 points per game) and 18th in scoring defense (20.5 points per game allowed).
