Freshman football star Herschel Walker makes his indoor track debut in the 60-yard dash. Walker, who twice drew All-American honors in track, ran well that day, but fell short to Olympic great Carl Lewis. It was the first of many encounters between the two, as they went on to build a competitive rivalry in the 1980s.
