Georgia beats Mercer 50-0 to win the first football game ever played in school history.


The No. 4 Georgia men's and women's swimming and diving squads toppled Emory to improve to 8-0 on the season. The women went on to win their second straight SEC championship – a streak that would extend to five. Coach Jack Bauerle would go on to earn honors as the 1998 SEC and NCAA Women’s Coach of the Year.
