“I think everyone is happy for Coach Bobo,” said Richt. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to be a head coach. Everyone will miss him but are happy for him as well. The biggest thing is that when a coordinator gets an opportunity to be a head coach, he has to decide if that’s right for him. Mike is ready to be a head coach and he took that opportunity. He’s been with me since I came to Georgia and he’s done great things for his alma mater. We’re thankful for all the good things he did. But right now everyone knows we have a job to do and that’s where our focus will be this week.”
As far as a replacement for Bobo, Richt said while he may think about it, the team has a job to do and the most important thing right now is focusing on the bowl game.
“When you are at Georgia there will be interest from a lot of tremendous coaches,” Richt said. “That has been the case the 14 years I’ve been at Georgia and the hundred years before I got here.”
Responding to the announcement Wednesday that Georgia offensive line coach Will Friend will join Bobo’s staff at Colorado State, Richt said “Will has been an outstanding line coach and has been extremely close to Mike. And that friendship will continue with the Rams.”
Asked about recruits, Richt said “our recruits know that coaches get opportunities but they know Georgia is an awesome place and there will be a lot of tremendous people that want to be here. I think we have a track record of hiring good people and very qualified people to take care of business but also be the right kind of people.”
