Danny Ware was probably the best quote machine in the early part of the Mark Richt Era. He'd tell reporters that he "could smell the funk" near the end zone. But Ware wasn't supposed to be playing much in Athens in 2004. Kregg Lumpkin suffered a torn ACL in August, and Ware's chief competition for carries, freshman Thomas Brown, was shut down at the time due to a hamstring. Ware was outstanding at times in 2004, but his opening performance against Georgia Southern wasn't expected by anyone other than himself.
