What I Learned Watching: Derrick Brown

ATLANTA - Matt DeBary takes a look at Lanier DL Derrick Brown.

Wow. Derrick Brown is the real deal at the Rising Seniors game. The massive defensive lineman was unstoppable all game - just wreaking havoc for every offensive lineman that Team Commitment put in front of him. I had read that he would be a big time 2016 prospect, so I was excited to watch him play. And let me tell you… he didn’t disappoint.

Brown looks massive. And although he was listed at 6-4, 261, I thought he looked bigger than that. Regardless, Brown showed he is extremely quick for the big, strong guy he is. Not many guys can burst off the ball the way he did, then have the strength to just plow over guys. He looked like a bear out there.

He uses his hands well, got leverage on the defender and showed good pursuit chasing down the ball carrier. He made the opposing quarterback throw the ball away multiple times, and I didn’t see any Team Commitment running back gain any yards running anywhere near him.

Brown simply dominated. Nobody could stop him. He was easily the best player on the field. The sky is the limit for this young man, and I believe he will eventually play on Sundays. It should be an interesting recruitment for Brown, and he will make one team very happy on Signing Day 2016.
