Dawg Post Recruiting Scoop

With National Signing Day less than a week away, what are guys like Rico McGraw, DaQuan Hawkins, Deandre Baker and Terry Godwin doing before they make their commitment?

Rico McGraw plans to meet with UGA on Thursday. As he has decommitted from Alabama, national recruiting analyst Chad Simmons feels, and has felt for a while, as though McGraw will end up in Athens. There is a chance he makes his commitment before Feb. 4.

WR Terrell Chatman enjoyed his time in Athens earlier this week but is now back home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. TCU coaches greeted Chatman upon arriving back home and were meeting with him Thursday afternoon. He is one to watch closely as signing day nears.

DT DaQuan Hawkins out of Westlake is another one to look after. With Quarte Sapp canceling his visit to Missouri (after committing to Tennessee), Simmons said he doesn’t expect Hawkins to end up in Columbia. There’s a strong chance Hawkins could up at UGA, according to Simmons.

Eurndraus Bryant, a three-star DL our of Fort Dorchester, South Carolina, was also in Athens last weekend. Simmons feels if UGA wants Bryant, they can hook him.

Three-star Deandre Baker visited with Texas on Wednesday. According to Simmons, it’s not looking like Baker will be the cornerback the Longhorns are looking to add to the 2015 class. Baker has NOT decommitted from UGA, Simmons confirms. While Texas has gained a little ground, Georgia still looks to be the leader with Baker.

It seems that five-star Terry Godwin will not be in Athens this weekend. Godwin will be playing basketball with his high school team Friday night and then get a visit from Auburn and Gus Malzahn on Saturday. Before all that, Georgia is heading to Callaway on Thursday afternoon to watch Godwin’s younger sister play middle school basketball, then they will visit with the Godwin family at home afterwards, Simmons reports. Georgia still looks like the strong frontrunner, Simmons said, but Alabama and Auburn are still in the race.

UGA received JUCO DL Austin Roberts’ transcripts, but he is not visiting Athens this weekend. He will not likely be part of this signing class, according to Simmons.

DB Kirby Choates is set to visit this weekend. According to Simmons, he is currently on “offer watch” until UGA offers. Once that happens, he moves to “commitment watch.” Choates wants to be at UGA.
