Fall Practice Notes - August 30

ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Georgia football team practiced for approximately one hour and 35 minutes Thursday at the Woodruff Practice Fields. The Bulldogs worked out in helmets, jerseys and shorts in final preparations for Saturday's game versus Arkansas State.

Head coach Mark Richt spoke about the line up after practice. "I would say that I'm pretty sure (David Greene) will start (at quarterback)," Richt said. "But I did tell Cory (Phillips) to stay ready. The question is whether, by design, we insert Cory or we play it out. We'll see how it goes. Don't be surprised to see Cory play no matter how David plays, or (D.J.) Shockley for that matter. The second man in will be Cory."

Richt also spoke about other positions including punt and kick returners and kickoff duties. "I've watched practice and I've seen Damien Gary, (Terrence) Edwards and Fred Gibson get most of the work (at punt returner)," Richt said. "(At kick returner) Reggie (Brown) is one of them, then Kenny Bailey might be the next candidate."

When asked if Brett Kirouac would handle kickoff duties, Richt said it was doubtful due to a groin injury. Richt said Kirouac is questionable for Saturday.

Richt noted that Billy Bennett and Jonathan Kilgo are the candidates to kickoff, but it could be either one of the players.

Richt also spoke on the status of offensive lineman Russ Tanner and George Foster stating that both players could be ready to play, but will most likely be held out Saturday unless needed.
