Five Storylines to Follow: UGA Recruiting

There is only three days to go until National Signing Day, but there are some big questions out there as Georgia works hard to finish strong. Here are five storylines Dawg Post is tracking...

Georgia sits at 25 commitments for 2015 and they would like to sign around 31 in this class.

They are No. 3 in the country on Scout's Team Rankings with a shot to stay in the top five when all the faxes are sent Wednesday.

The face-to-face time will end today and a lot of big decisions will be made over the next 72 hours. Here are five storylines Dawg Post is tracking.

Can the Dawg's Hang On?

Auburn got Darius Slayton and his family on campus last weekend for an official visit and things have gotten very interesting the last few days. Georgia spent hours around Slayton and his family on Monday, then Auburn came in to see him Tuesday. He has been on the phone with coaches from each staff this weekend and this is one UGA is working hard to hang onto. A final decision hasn't been made yet from what Dawg Post is hearing, but Slayton is not likely to take this to signing day. This one could go either way.

Allen Coming Back?

Patrick Allen met with Georgia on Saturday, a day after meeting with Tennessee -- those are the two schools that are true contenders. He will play in the SEC, and like Chad Simmons has reported for over a week, Georgia is trending. The Dawgs, new offensive line coach Rob Sale have done an excellent job here. Brian Schottenheimer has been involved as well. With a few days to go, Georgia is still trending.

Staying or Leaving?

Roquan Smith has been high on Georgia's board for a year and some would argue that he is their top target. He visited UCLA this weekend -- the Bruins offered him first and they are a player in this. Michigan is too, but this looks to come down to a school in Athens and L.A. Odds are still in the home-state school's favor, but him leaving would not be a shocker. Some observing Smith feel UCLA could be the school he favors, but Dawg Post still is going with UGA for the school he chooses on signing day.

Godwin Good to Go?

Gus Malzahn and the Tigers were at the home of Terry Godwin Saturday afternoon, then at his basketball game Saturday evening. Auburn has been in this for the past year, but it has really come on strong the last months. Alabama has not been ruled out, but Auburn is Georgia's biggest threat entering the final few days. Most think UGA will win out here, but if so, they had to work. This one will not be finalized until 6pm ET Wednesday, so a lot of eyes will be on Godwin when he signs his letter of intent.

Coming Back?

Jeremy Pruitt quickly offered Rico McGraw a scholarship when he took over as Georgia's defensive coordinator early in 2014. That relationship goes back to when McGraw camped at Alabama and Pruitt was on Nick Saban's staff. Relationships are so key in recruiting and this should help UGA close with McGraw. The four-star defensive back was a Georgia commit, then flipped to Alabama, and just recently decommitted from the Tide. He and his mother visited UGA this weekend.

Quick Hits:

  • Keep an eye on Nick Buchanan. There is a chance that he decommits coming out of his visit to Florida this weekend. He is still committed to California, but the offensive lineman out of Dunwoody (Ga.) is eyeing the Gators and Dawgs hard.

  • Terrell Chatman took a mid-week visit to Georgia and he is still committed to Miami, but he is still exploring his options. He has communicated with UGA this weekend.

  • What about Kirby Choates? If he is offered (Odds are in his favor), he will be a Bulldog. He is a versatile defensive back out of East Point (Ga.) Tri-Cities.
