Jordan Jenkins: On the Record

ATHENS - Jordan Jenkins speaks with media following Georgia's first day of Spring practice.

Q: How does it feel to be back out on the field?

A: It feels good. We’ve definitely been waiting for it and I feel like everyone is in a lot better shape than we were last year at this point. I know I am, that’s for sure.

For the first practice of Spring I feel like this one was a lot better conditioning-wise. Even some of the younger guys might not have known what to do, but they were still giving it 100 percent. I feel like we’re able to maintain is what I’m trying to say.

There’s going to be some intense battles this spring. Everyone’s going 100 percent, or else you could lose your spot.

Q: How are you embracing your leadership role?

A: I feel like I definitely lead by example and I’m starting to become a lot more vocal than I have been in the past. I’m getting onto guys when they’re messing up, and I’m getting onto guys beforehand versus waiting until it’s too late.

I’m starting to get rid of that quality about me.

Q: Did any of the younger guys stand out to you today?

A: (Johnathan) Abram was running around. He was flying around a good bit. Really for the first day I feel like a lot of the guys were flying around, but it’s hard to pick just one person, but I feel like Thursday or Saturday I’ll have one for sure.

Q: Will the linebackers set the tone this season?

A: I feel like we have to if we want to be successful this year. We’ve got the most experience across the board in our line backing unit and we have to be the ones to help out and help the DBs out and really just do our job and influence them in the same way.

Q: Were some of the younger players’ heads spinning out there?

A: Natrez (Patrick). Me and Lorenzo (Carter) and Coach (Kevin) Sherrer, we pointed at him and laughed. We said, look, he’s got that high school daze to him. He’s out of it, trying to figure out where to go. That’s what you expect. He’s supposed to be going to prom or maybe an all-star game, but he’s up here grinding and I feel like he’s getting the hang of things. It’s just funny. Everybody has that high school daze.

Q: Who are you looking forward to going against most once the pads are on?

A: Definitely Sony (Michel), because he’s been talking a lot of trash. Then he tried to be like, ‘hey, we’re cool, right,’ and I was like nah, not with all that trash you’ve been talking.
