What I Learned Watching: Andrew Thomas

Matt DeBary shares what he learned watching Pace OL Andrew Thomas play live.

Andrew Thomas is a talented offensive tackle who also plays defense for Pace Academy in Atlanta. The 6’5, 305 lb. prospect had a great performance Friday night, but it was against a much weaker opponent in Providence Christian.

Thomas looked like the big time prospect that he is at offensive tackle, throwing around the opposing lineman at will. He is a little taller and leaner than teammate Jamaree Salyer, but not quite as strong. He has a good frame, long arms, and moves well for a guy of his size.

He only played the first three series on offense, leading a strong rushing attack that helped Pace Academy jump to a quick 21-0 lead after the first three drives. Pace didn’t throw the ball much at all, so like Salyer, I would really like to see Thomas more in pass protection, and against a more quality opponent. He overpowered the opposing defensive lineman when playing offense, and also recorded three tackles on six defensive plays.

Overall, I wasn’t able to see too much of Thomas since they were scrimmaging a much weaker opponent, but I understand why programs all over the South are offering this talented 2017 offensive tackle. Andrew Thomas is a name to know for the 2017 class.
