Richt: 2nd Team Pushing Starters

ATHENS - Once again it was a good day for the guys rushing the quarterback on the second team defense.

“Whoever was the edge rushers with the No. 2 unit was having a good day,” Richt said. “We’re struggling there with protecting.”

A week after Lorenzo Carter inflicted the damage, Richt said redshirt sophomore Davin Bellamy was getting around the tackle.

“We’ve got a lot of young guys in second team positions that are really capable guys that just need to continue exactly how to do things and exactly what to do,” Richt said. “They might start bumping some people out of the box if they keep coming on in that regard.”

Houston mentioned freshman Natrez Patrick as someone who has impressed him at inside linebacker along with UAB transfer Jake Ganus.

“Jake’s just a really smart football player,” he said.

Houston has gone up a good bit against heralded freshman defensive lineman Trent Thompson.

“It’s not like he’s just killing people out there, but he’s a good football player,” Houston said. “He’s definitely one of those kids you just can’t maul over.”
