UGA Looking to Plug in Defensive Linemen

ATHENS - The loss of defensive tackles Ray Drew, Mike Thornton and Toby Johnson hasn’t gotten much attention.

That’s considering the Bulldogs brought in five-star Trenton Thompson and former Alabama commitment Jonathan Ledbetter among six freshmen linemen.

“They’re not all defensive tackles,” Pruitt said. “There’s some defensive end type bodies in there that we’re kind of having to plug in there to be defensive tackles right now.”

Chauncey Rivers from Mays is 265 pounds and Ledbetter is 260, Pruitt said. Justin Young is 265. Michael Barnett is listed at 276.

“Those guys are going to get bigger,” Pruitt said.

Thompson said he was at 307 pounds and DaaQuan Hawkins is listed at 302.

Ledbetter has been out for two weeks with an undisclosed injury. Pruitt didn’t indicate when he may return.
