UGA Drops a Spot in AP Poll

ATHENS - Georgia’s 51-14 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday couldn’t keep the Bulldogs from moving down a spot to No. 10 in this week’s Associated Press poll.

Georgia’s 51-14 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday couldn’t keep the Bulldogs from moving down a spot to No. 10 in this week’s Associated Press poll.

Notre Dame jumped both Georgia and Florida State to move from No. 11 to No. 9. Florida State fell from No. 10 to No. 11.

The Irish blew out Texas 38-3.

Georgia held steady at No. 9 in the Amway coaches’ poll.

The SEC broke a record for most teams from one conference in the AP poll with 10 this week: No. 2 Alabama, No. 6 Auburn, No. 10 Georgia, No. 14 LSU, No. 16 Texas A&M, No. 17 Ole Miss, No. 18 Arkansas, No. 21 Missouri, No. 23 Tennessee and No. 25 Mississippi State.

This and that

Georgia will don the red jerseys it wears for home games to accommodate an alternative uniform for Vanderbilt. The Commodores are wearing new “deep water” uniforms which feature gray jerseys and pants, black lettering and gold-trimmed jersey numbers and comes with a chromed finish helmet that features textured water and an anchor decal on the side. The Commodores football twitter account posted a short video with the message: “Big Day. Big Look. #Deep Water,” listing Saturday’s Georgia game. “If they asked us to do it, I’ve never not accommodated that for a home team,” Richt said. Georgia wore red jerseys at the Florida game last year and has worn them at Georgia Tech and LSU.

Georgia could have two players who sat out the season opener see their first game action of the season Saturday. Inside linebacker Reggie Carter, who dealt with a shoulder injury in the preseason and was held out of the first game as a precaution, practiced in a regular jersey on Tuesday. Fullback Christian Payne, who was No. 1 at the position early in preseason camp, was also in a regular jersey but had a wrap on his left leg after sustaining a cracked fibula in a scrimmage. Reserve tailback A.J. Turman, who Richt said had an ankle injury, was not spotted in practice. Inside linebacker Tim Kimbrough was wearing a club on his left wrist but practicing in a regular jersey.

Richt said coaches will figure out in practice this week whether Collin Barber or Marshall Morgan will handle kickoffs after both shared duties Saturday.

Georgia played only one reserve on the offensive line Saturday. Center Hunter Long played 18 snaps. If the game wasn’t halted early due to lightning, guard Dyshon Sims and tackle Kendall Baker would have gone in the next series, offensive line coach Rob Sale said.
