Monday Dawg Post News and Notes

ATHENS -Georgia starting center Brandon Kublanow practiced on a limited basis Monday while dealing with an ankle injury, according to Hunter Long, his backup.

“In my mind, it’s the same thing, I prepare to be the starter every week,” said Long, who came in for Kublanow in the third quarter of the loss to Alabama and played the entire fourth quarter. “Whether (assistant Rob Sale) tells me to go in or not, that’s what I do. Basically, I’m going to keep preparing like I have been and however it is Saturday, that’s what I’m going to do.”

Long is a fifth-year senior from Memphis who will return to his home state for Saturday’s game at Tennessee.

“They were kind of from the far end,” said Long, who grew up closer to Ole Miss. “I never really liked orange.”

Long said he graded out “pretty good,” against Alabama. He was in the game on Nick Chubb’s 83-yard touchdown run.

 Missouri gametime set

Georgia will have its latest kickoff of the season when Missouri comes to town.

The Oct. 17 game at Sanford Stadium is set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on the SEC Network, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The matchup is Georgia’s homecoming game.

All of Georgia’s games will have either kicked at noon or 3:30 p.m. except for the Sept. 19 home game against South Carolina, which was a 6 p.m. start time.

Georgia, now No. 19 in the AP poll, plays at Tennessee Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on CBs.

 This and that

Mauger recounted the message that came from coach Mark Richt’s message to the team since the loss to Alabama like this: “You can’t let one loss determine who Georgia football is. You’ve got to keep fighting.” Players said they were moving on to focus on Tennessee. “We’re keeping our heads straight,” Sanders said. “We’re not going to let one loss bring us down. We’re going to maintain our work ethic.” …Georgia’s second road game of the season will have the home team wearing an alternate uniform again. Tennessee will debut “Smokey Grey” that feature grey helmets with a Smoky Mountains design. Coach Butch Jones announced what his team will wear “if we do get all the helmets in.” He said the change “does not help you win a football game, but I know everyone has been looking forward to that.” …Saturday's UGA captains: Chubb, Sterling Bailey, Jordan Jenkins and Jake Ganus. ...Tennessee receiver Pig Howard (concussion) is questionable, but receiver Marquez North (back) is on track to play. Starting guard Dylan Wiesman (foot) is expected to practice.
