Statesboro Blues: UGA Escapes Ga. Southern

ATHENS - After the Georgia defense held on a 4th and 1 in overtime, Sony Michel took the first play 25-yards into the end zone giving Georgia a 23-17 victory on a day full of emotion.

Before the game the collar was passed from Uga IX (Russ) to Uga X (Que) which helped pump up the crowed giving Georgia an early bump as they marched 62 yards in 7 plays to take an early 7-0 lead.

After falling down 14-7, freshman Terry Godwin made a diving catch in the end zone to tie up the game.

The two teams traded field goals leading to overtime.

Georgia out gained Georgia Southern 313-277.

Georgia faces another instate rival next week as they travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech.
