Xavier McKinney is a four-star defensive back from Roswell (Ga) currently committed to Alabama. McKinney is one of the top ranked defensive back prospects in the state of Georgia for 2017, and has a great junior season with 90 tackles and 12 interceptions, leading the Roswell Hornets to the state championship. Although he remains 100% committed to the Crimson Tide, McKinney did admit that he is still being recruited by many schools, including the Georgia Bulldogs.
“He’s (Coach Kirby Smart) contacted me a couple times since he’s been at Georgia.” McKinney said. “He told me that he wants me really bad and wants me to come down to see the campus and see what UGA is all about. Then he wants me to flip of course.”
If Smart wants the big 6’1 185 lb. safety to flip to the Bulldogs, he needs to make sure McKinney visits Athens a few times during the offseason.
“I’ve never visited Georgia at all.” McKinney admitted. “I’ve visited Alabama about four times. I went to Ole Miss game and LSU game. I haven’t spoken to anyone at Alabama recently though.”
McKinney also said that Clemson and Tennessee are also still recruiting him, as well as Georgia
“I definitely want to take some visits soon in the spring and summer but I don’t have any planned out right now.” McKinney said. “I’m still keeping an open mind but I’m still all Alabama right now.”
The state of Georgia is loaded at defensive back for the class of 2017 including McKinney, teammate LeAnthony Williams, Jamyest Williams, current commit Richard LeCounte, William Poole, and five-star DeAngelo Gibbs. It will be interesting to see which prospects Kirby reaches out to the most. One thing is for sure though, and that is Xavier McKinney will be a top priority. He is a prospect with good size, great ball skills, and the ability to lay the big hit.
Keep a close eye on this talented 2017 prospect going forward.
